A jury will reconvene on Monday to decide the fate of a North Carolina man who allegedly murdered his wife and two-year-old daughter and then posted images of their corpses on Facebook as 'trophies.'Elhadji Diop, 55, faces life in prison if he is convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Aminata Drame, 40, and their daughter, Fatim. The family immigrated to the United States from Somalia. .Freeman said that Diop posted the photos on social media as if the bodies of his wife and daughter were 'like trophies,' according to WRAL-TV. But a defense attorney for Diop said those photos were shrines to two people he killed accidentally and loved so dearly he tried to kill himself after their deaths. The bodies of Drame and Fatim were found by Raleigh police in April 2016 after Diop's niece in Senegal saw the photos of the dead mother and child in an embrace on Facebook with 'Look what God did to me' written underneath, prosecutors said. Diop was arguing with his wife about money when he allegedly strangled her. The 2-year-old child got between the two as they struggled and was crushed under her unconscious mother, Freeman said. 'Think about a small child being crunched under struggling adults, surely crying out and yet the defendant persists in that struggle,' she said. 'A picture is worth a thousand words,' Freeman said in her closing argument as she showed jurors the photo of the bodies. 'This picture is proof that Elhadji Diop is guilty.'The prosecutor added: 'For most of us would, it is difficult to understand how you can murder your wife and your daughter, move them, pose them on the floor and not call 911, not call for help.' But a defense lawyer said Diop tried to kill himself after the deaths by cutting his throat and wrists and ingesting rat poison, roach killer and grease remover.'His grief was real. One does not build a shrine to someone they wanted to kill,' public defender Chuck Caldwell said.'Horrible things can occur that are the result of an accident.'Beside the first-degree murder charges, Diop can also be found guilty of lesser charges.
